SDCC- Small Device C Compiler

This is a free, open source compiler designed mainly for 8 bit micro controllers. It supports intels MCS51 based micro controllers( 8051,8031,8032,8052), Dallas DS80C390 variants, Freescale (formerly Motorola) HC08 and Zilog Z80 based MCUs.Of course at present it supports PIC also.

PICPgm - PIC Development Programmer

PICPgm supports a lot of programmer hardwares. Initially it was developed for WIndows. At present they have released their first Linux version.

GPUTILS is a collection of tools for the Microchip  (TM) PIC microcontrollers. It includes gpasm, gplink, and gplib. It's distributed under the terms of the GNU Public License. There are other GNU PIC tools available such as gpsim, a gputils compatible simulator.
