Disabling Wireless LAN in BSNL modems

BSNL WiFi modems are getting widely deployed these days. In these modems Wireless LAN (WLAN ) is activated by default. It is better to turn it of if you are not using it. Because if you left your WLAN ON without any password protection it can make some security issues.

To check whether your WLAN is ON/OFF, check the status of the LED indicator below the WLAN in front of your WiFi modem. If it is ON, WLAN is active, otherwise it is deactivated.

To disable WLAN follow the steps below:

  1. Switch ON the modem.
  2. Open up your browser and type "" without quotes in the address bar.
  3. It will prompt for your username and password. If you don't know these, contact BSNL.
  4. Once user name and password are given it will take you to DSL router. Now select the wireless option on the left side.
  5. In the page which opened, you will find a check box to enable /disable WLAN. Uncheck it to disable WLAN.
  6. Now click on save/apply button at the bottom of the page.
  7. That's all. Your WLAN is now deactivated.
  8. You may confirm this by checking the status of the LED below WLAN on the modem.
