Installing LXDE in UBUNTU

Ubuntu by default comes with GNOME dektopenvironment. This is bulky and slow. For getting a faster experience it is better to use some light weight desktop environment. LXDE (Lightweight X11 DEsktop Environment) is most suitable for this. Follow the steps below to install LXDE in your Ubuntu system.

Method 1

You can use your synaptic package manager to install LXDE.
Goto " Sytem/Administration/Synaptic "
Now you search for " lxde ". Mark " lxde " for installation. It will also ask you to install some more other supporting packages.
Now apply the changes and LXDE is installed in your system.
You should log out and login by selecting LXDE session.

 Method 2

Edit “/etc/apt/sources.list” in this file add the following line within     quotes only
For Hardy users: add below lines
deb hardy main
deb-src hardy main”
For Gutsy Users:
“deb gutsy main
deb-src gutsy main”
Save and exit it.
Source files updated by following the above.
open the terminal and type the following
sudo apt-get update
after updated type
sudo apt-get install lxde
Now your LXDE is successfully installed. You need to logout and then login as LXDE session to change your desktop environment to LXDE.
