Installing Application From The Source Code In Linux

Since Linux is open source, almost all the applications used in it are also opensource. We are able to access the source code of these applications. It is pretty easy to install applications from their source code.

  • First you need to download the souce code
  • Open up the terminal and login as root.
  • Navigate to the folder which contains the source code
  • Now execute just three commands
      ./configure
    make
    makeinstall

For these commands to work properly you will need to have all the required libraries for compiling. While executing these commands, if errors are found you may not be able to install it properly.
